15. A Jackal’s Wedding
My new album is now yours
I’m lying down watching the television, it is 5 minutes to 6 on Thursday evening, November 6th. On Al Jazeera news they are discussing the polarisation and fracturing of the social fabric in relation to what is now the longest governmental shutdown in history. In contrast, I received a message from Bryan about the listening event last night in LA, which made me feel anything but disconnected and fractured despite being thousands of miles away. I find being at your own listening to be very uncomfortable, but the initiative to get people together to share collectively with attention over anything is of fundamental importance at the moment. Thank you to In Sheeps Clothing for organising the events, and to Fidelity in Dublin, Onda in Milan, Mr. Melo in Brooklyn, and Spiritland in London for hosting.
Spring is a song I wrote before my mind tried to know what it meant, on a different instrument to this one. I thought it sang better on piano, I wonder if you agree.
The day of a record becoming public is usually one of conflicted feelings. All of the work and all of the memories and all of the struggle being somehow taken away by the invisible hand. Mostly I tend to feel relieved at the thought of it being completely gone from me, to do what it wants in the world. Making records is difficult both technically and spiritually. Relief at its going isn’t to say that I am not proud of what we made. I am. I won’t talk more about the record, as I have done so indirectly a great deal over the last few months. Today I would just like to thank the following people without whom there would be no record today as it is. I hope you enjoy A Jackal’s Wedding.

I have spoken a lot recently about my creative relationship with Braulio. The designs for the vinyl and cd packaging were a labour of love between the two of us. There is much to puzzle inside if you get hold of one. It does make sense, even if it doesn’t.

I hope to see you at a show sometime either on this run with Nation of Language or next year. We have added a Berlin show to the run early next year where we will be joined by Laura Groves. It can be difficult to connect with the idea that music is out there being a companion to people. It’ll be good to see you, thank you for your attention and see you soon. Will.

Spring is easily my favorite song on the record. Its simplicity with the piano and the lyrical content tugs at my heartstrings
